12 Grimmauld Place

Hey. Just thought of something.

Why the heck would the Noble House of Black, the ancestral home of a Muggle-hating family of pureblooded wizards and witches, be situated in the middle of MUGGLE London?

I've been wondering that for ages. The only assumption I can make is that the house was there before Muggle London came to be (making it really, really, really old), and the enchantments that they placed on the house kept it hidden as construction happened all around. *shrug* Maybe...

good point! The family had to have been around for centuries. They probably were there before any Muggles, or even any other major buildings, and used that argument for staying.

"You damn Muggles get off my lawn!"

Yep - that's my head canon. There first, unwilling to concede defeat.

Prestige?

Maybe there are lots of other Wizarding homes in the area and, like Mihnn just said, maybe they were there first and the Muggles just built around them.

I mean, parts of London are Wizarding, too, right? That's where the Ministry is, yes? Maybe the Blacks wanted their solitude and their privacy from other Wizards.

Another good point. They could have simply wanted to be aloof and apart from the rest of wizarding society. They hid themselves with Concealment Charms etc. and as a result the Muggles just considered that plot of land to be unbuildable for some unknown reason...

Do I think too much?
